.NET Framework - Looking for slide show add-in (freeware?)

Hi everyone. I just converted my site over from FrontPage to CSS using
Expression Web. I love the new sleak look that Expression Web has put on my
site. I was however surprised to find I was missing some things like the
ability to add a counter, picture gallery or slide show. I found a number of
free Add-Ins, such as one to put back Include files, another for adding
picture galleries and some other web bots like a counter. I have not however
been able to find an add in for a slide show. Does anybody know where I
might find one (preferably freeware)?

Unless you're doing this as a hobby without any gain it is not free as your

Great link Stefan, thanks! I found a few things that are close to what I
want but none that did what FrontPage Slidshow did. I'll keep on looking
through that site though as there are many great examples.

True Mike, but I consider this an investment in my education. I am switching
over from ASP to ASP.Net at the same time I am moving over from FrontPage to
Expression Web. I am VERY strong with vbscript but know little of javascript
and have been finding a lot of javascript samples out there. I need to try
to find a vb.net or vbscript solution.

Thanks Rob,
You know I remember Network World's Mark Gibbs doing a write up on this. I
cut out the article to try it out and forgot about it. I just downloaded and
will try it out.
Ideally I would love to just be able to write my own solution. I know how
to take a thumbnail view and make it clickable to update a larger image. My
problem is that ASP.Net does not allow the Set command anymore and I just
don't know how to enumerate the files (I want a dynamic solution where I can
at will add images by just dumping them into a folder). In ASP with vbscript
I do this all the time, but that requires using the FileSystemObject which
needs a Set command.
An example of the enumeration is here:
http://www.thespidersparlor.com/publicdownloads/publicdownloads.asp
I just dump files into a folder and my code makes the links to the
documents. In the end I want to do the same with ASP.Net. Once I can do
that I can create a pure ASP.Net/CSS friendly solution that I will be happy
to share with others.
Anyway, I will give JAlbum a try as it seems rather robust and will probably
solve a problem for a photographer that I know. Thanks for the suggestion.
Regards,
Mark

what you're talking about...there's gotta be a ASP.net one like it.

Thanks again Rob, my site does not support PHP (neither do I). Like you said
there has to be an ASP.Net version out there somewhere. If not there will be
soon as I work the issue. I'll post a link to my solution when I develop it.

You realize that the FrontPage slide show only works in IE? Which is one of
the many reasons it is not available.

For anyone else looking to do this, I managed to create my own ASP.Net
solution using VB.Net.
What my solution does is enumerate a folder and dynamically create thumbnail
views. You can move forward and back on the thumbnails with "wrap around"
supported when you get to the beginning or end of the thumbnails. Clicking
on any thumbnail will display that picture in a larger image on the same
screen.
If anyone can tell me how to avoid my screen flashing (seems to reload on
the clicks) I would appreciate it.
You can see the slideshow (some SCUBA photos of a cave dive I did in Mexico)
here: http://www.thespidersparlor.com/slideshow.aspx. The source code is

Move to an AJAX implementation (more programming) if you want to avoid a
full screen "flash" as the image changes.
One example?
MarkDMacLachla replied...
Thanks Gregory. I will check it out. I downloaded the code, regretfully the
video posted with it is corrupt.
